Apple season is here and this Apple strudel | Apple Samosas | Apple puffs dessert is one of my favourites and worth trying for this cosy fall weather. I sent these to school and my son and his friends loved them. You can enjoy these along with ice cream for dessert or have them as a snack. I love the fact that these can be easily made using Malaysian Parathas or Puff Pastry Sheets.

Imagine tender, caramelized apple slices spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg, all wrapped in delicate, flaky pastry. An apple strudel is a slice of heaven for anyone craving a warm, comforting dessert. Originating from Austria, this classic dish combines tart, juicy apples with sugar, raisins, and a hint of lemon, all rolled into paper-thin dough. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of custard for a truly indulgent experience. Whether you’re cosying up by the fire or entertaining guests, apple strudel brings a rustic, heartwarming charm to the table.
How to make Apple strudel?
Step 1: Cook the apples
- Wash, peel, and dice the apples into 1-inch pieces.
- Heat butter in a pan, add the diced apples, and cook for 5-7 minutes until softened.
- Add sugar and cook for another 5 minutes until the water is absorbed.
Step 2: Add spices
- Mix saffron strands with 1 teaspoon of milk, let it sit for a few minutes.
- Add cardamom powder, cinnamon, and saffron milk to the apples. Stir and cook until the mixture thickens.
- Once the liquid is absorbed, remove it from heat and let it cool.
Step 3: Prepare the pastry
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray.
- Thaw the paratha or puff pastry and cut each sheet in half.
Step 4: Assemble the strudel
- Fold one piece of pastry into a triangle (samosa shape), add a spoonful of apple filling, and seal the edges.
- Repeat until all the apple filling is used.
Step 5: Bake the strudel
- Place the strudels on a baking tray, make a small slit on top of each, and brush with milk.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
Step 6: Serve
- Remove from the oven, sprinkle with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
- Optional: Serve with ice cream.
Storage:
- Room Temperature (Short-term): Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Keep loosely covered to maintain crispiness.
- Refrigeration (Medium-term): Store in an airtight container in the fridge for 4-5 days. Reheat in the oven to bring back some crispiness.
- Freezing (Long-term): Freeze unbaked or baked strudels for up to 2 months. Place on a tray to freeze, then transfer to a freezer bag or container.
- Reheating: Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes. Avoid using the microwave to prevent sogginess.
Serving suggestions:
- With Ice Cream: Serve warm apple strudel with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic pairing.
- Whipped Cream: Add a dollop of fresh whipped cream on top for an extra touch of sweetness. You can also try this other apple recipe.

Apple strudel | Apple Samosas | Apple puffs
Ingredients
- 3 plain Malaysian parathas / 1 Roll of Puff pastry sheet
- 2 cups chopped red delicious
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon powder optional
- 1 tablespoon milk
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
- 4-5 strands of saffron
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Wash, peel and dice apples into 1 inch pieces
- Cook the apples on stove top with butter
- Add sugar after few minutes
- Let the water absorb
- Mix 1 tsp of milk with saffron strands
- Add cardamom powder, saffron milk mixture and cinnamon
- Mix it and once water is absorbed , let it cook
- Preheat the oven to 375 degree Fahrenheit
- Cut the thawed Paratha or puff pastry sheet in 1/2
- Take one side and fold it into a samosa shape and stuff the apple filling in it
- Seal the paratha into triangle shape
- Continue to do that till all apple stuffing has been used
- Place them on baking tray and then slit it from top using a knife and brush it with milk
- Bake the apple strudels in the oven for 20-25 minutes or till crispy and brown
- Take them out of the oven and sprinkle powdered sugar over it
- Serve it along with ice cream or enjoy them by itself
