Calabrian Chili Oil is an infused olive oil made with Calabrian chilis that isĀ also called Olio de Peperoncino. We had this oil on our last trip to Italy and it elevated so many dishes. I love infused oils as it adds lot of flavor to food. As a spicy food lover, I had to remake the Calabrian Chili Oil. It tastes perfect when paired along breads,Ā  added on sandwiches , pizza, pastas and so much more.Ā

How to make Calabrian Chili Oil?

In a bowl add all the dry ingredients such as dry chili flakes, Calabrian chilies and red chili powder and little bit of saltĀ

Heat the Olive oil to 250-275 degrees Fahrenheit so that it can speed up the infusion processĀ

Pour the olive oil over dry ingredients and stir itĀ

Store it in a glass jar or container and enjoy the chili oil in few daysĀ

What is Calabrian Chili?Ā

Calabrian Chili are chili peppers grown in a region South of Italy called Calabria. They are medium spicy and adds a sweet, smoky and fruity flavor to dishes. These chilies are often added to Italian dishes such as pizza, pasta, veggies and much more.Ā

Where can you find Calabrian Chilis?

You can find Calabrian chilies in most Italian store and I was able to find them on amazon. They are small size and it is best to use them dry to ensure that the moisture is all gone.Ā

Why make the Calabrian Chili oil at home?Ā

Calabrian chili oil is readily available at grocery stores. The readily available has added ingredients and chemicals that may not be good for health. It is extremely easy to make it at home and it lasts for few months.Ā

How to store the oil?

You can store it at room temperature for 2 months. It does not need to be refrigerated.Ā

Which Olive oil should you pick?Ā

I simply like to pick the olive oil that is not too strong. We like a mild – medium tasting extra virign olive oil as you do not want it to take over the taste of the chilies. Taste the olive oil before infusing it with the chilies.Ā  Try to stick with extra virgin olive oil as it is the highest grade of olive oil.Ā
