Thandai, a traditional Indian beverage, has roots that trace back centuries. Thandai was crafted as a cooling and rejuvenating drink, especially popular during the sweltering summer months. Its name, “Thandai,” translates to “cooling” in Hindi, reflecting its refreshing nature.

Thandai has taken on a new avatar with the creation of Thandai Date Bites, marrying tradition with modern tastes. These delectable treats infuse the essence of Thandai into bite-sized delights, offering a unique twist on a classic favorite.

Thandai Date Bites are made with the same tasty spices and ingredients as regular Thandai. They’re filled with flavors like almonds, fennel seeds, and cardamom. Plus, they’re mixed with creamy mascarpone cheese and stuffed into sweet Mejdool dates. Each bite is bursting with delicious flavors!

How to make Thandai Date Bites | Thandai Stuffed Mejdool Dates?

Prepare the Thandi Powder:

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the raw almonds, cashews, pistachios, fennel seeds, black pepper, cardamom pods (seeds only), poppy seeds (if using), rock sugar or regular sugar, dry rose petals, and saffron strands.
  • Blend the ingredients until you achieve a fine powder-like consistency.
  • Set the Thandi powder aside.

Prepare the Mascarpone Cheese Mixture:

  • In a mixing bowl, add the mascarpone cheese.
  • Gradually add the Thandi powder to the mascarpone cheese, mixing well until fully combined.
  • Adjust the amount of Thandi powder according to your taste preferences.

Stuff the Dates:

  • Take the Mejdool dates and make a small slit lengthwise on one side of each date.
  • Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each date with the creamy mascarpone cheese Thandi mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

Garnish:

  • Sprinkle dry rose petals over the stuffed dates for a decorative touch.
  • Place a few pieces of fennel seeds candy on top of each stuffed date.

Serve:

  • Arrange the stuffed dates on a serving platter.
  • Serve immediately as a dessert or a sweet treat for any occasion.

While everyone choose to stuff their dates with almond or peanut butter, we are stuffing ours with Mascarpone cheese combined with Thandai powder.  They are crunchy, creamy and gooey from inside and the sugar is perfectly balanced. These are also healthier than other sugar desserts.

Ingredients
  

Date Bites

  • 25 Mejdool Dates
  • 8 oz Mascarpone cheese
  • 1/2 cup Thandai Powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry rose petals
  • 1 tsp candied fennel seeds to garnish
  • Sugar as needed

Homemade Thandai Powder

  • 1/2 cup raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup raw cashews
  • 1/2 cup pistachio
  • 2 tablespoon fennel seeds

  • 6 whole cardamom pods
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds optional
  • 2 tablespoon rock whole sugar or 1 tablespoon regular sugar

  • 6-8 strands of saffron or kesar
