Gathiya nu Shaak

Gathiya nu shaak is spicy and tangy yogurt based curry that is made with basic ingredients in the kitchen. This recipe was always made during paryushan or tithi and it is lip smacking. The softened gathiya in the curry along with spices tastes absolutely delicious. It’s quick and everyone in your family will love it.

  • 1 cup gathiya
  • 1 cup yogurt warm it if needed
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp asafetida powder
  • 1 tablespoon oil


  • In a pan heat oil on medium heat
  • Add mustard seeds and asafetida powder
  • Once it sizzles add yogurt and lower the heat
  • Add red chili powder and turmeric powder and mix it well
  • Now add the gathiya and mix everything well and increase the heat to medium
  • Add salt and cook till gathia softens about 2 minutes and turn off the heat
  • Sprinkle some crispy gathia on top and serve hot with rice, rotli or parathas
