psulated the lively spirit of Holi. This year, as I prepare to visit my son’s school to share the vibrant traditions of Holi, I am excited to introduce his friends to this special dish in a fun way.

I plan to prepare Dahi Boondi Baskets / Canapés, a modern twist on the classic dish, ser

ved in crunchy, bite-sized baskets. The combination of creamy yogurt, crispy boondi, and vibrant garnishes like shredded carrots and beets mirrors the colorful explosion of Holi. What is Dahi Boondi ?

Dahi Boondi is a traditional Indian snack that’s loved across the country for its vibrant flavors and unique texture. It’s the perfect balance of creamy yogurt and crispy boondi, enhanced with a sprinkle of spices.

How to make Dahi Boondi Baskets ?

1. Shred Carrots and Beets
Start by shredding fresh carrots and beets into thin strips for a crunchy texture and vibrant color.

2. Chop Fresh Cilantro
Finely chop a bunch of washed cilantro to add a fresh, aromatic flavor to your dish.

3. Whisk Yogurt
In a separate bowl, whisk plain yogurt until it becomes smooth and creamy.

4. Add Spices to Yogurt
Mix cumin powder, salt, and red chili powder into the yogurt to enhance its flavor and give it a tangy, spicy kick.

5. Combine Yogurt with Dahi Boondi
Add your Dahi Boondi (crispy chickpea flour droplets soaked in yogurt) to the spiced yogurt mixture. Stir gently to combine everything evenly.

6. Prepare the Serving Plate
On a serving plate, drizzle sweet and spicy chutney in a decorative pattern. Use the back of a spoon to spread it, creating a colorful and eye-catching effect.

7. Arrange Chaat Baskets or Canapés
Place individual chaat baskets or canapés on the plate to form the base of your dish. These crunchy shells will hold the Dahi Boondi mixture.

8. Fill with Dahi Boondi Mixture
Fill the baskets with the mixture.

9. Garnish with Fresh Carrot and Beet Shreds
Top the Dahi Boondi mixture with shredded carrots and beets for added texture, color, and flavor.

10. Add Chopped Cilantro and Masala Boondi
Sprinkle some chopped cilantro on top and finish with a few more crispy masala Boondi for that extra crunch.

11. Serve Immediately
Serve your Dahi Boondi chaat right away to enjoy the perfect balance of crunch, tang, and spice!

Storage:

You can make the Dahi Boondi filling with yogurt, spices and boondi few hours before serving and store it in refrigerator

Serving Suggestions:

You can serve this on Canapes or also chaat puris

The Dahi Boondi can be served as a dip along with puris.

Dahi Boondi Basket is an each fusion chaat recipe with is colorful and perfect for Holi celebrations. It’s tastes as delicious as it looks and will meet your chaat cravings for Holi or any other festival. Make the filling ahead of time and serve them with chaat puris or canapés.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Yogurt /Dahi
  • 6-8 chaat Basket or Canapés
  • Salt as needed
  • 3/4 cup masala boondi
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1/2 tsp roasted jeera powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoon cilantro chili chutney
  • 2 tablespoon dates tamarind chutney
  • 2 tablespoon shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoon shredded beets
  • 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Instructions
 

  • Take carrots and beet and shred them
  • Chop washed cilantro
  • Whisk yogurt in a separate bowl
  • Add cumin powder, salt and red chili powder and mix it
  • Add the masala Dahi Boondi and mix it for a bit
  • On the serving plate, drop sweet and spicy chutney and using back of your spoon splash it to form bursting and colorful effect
  • Then place the chaat baskets or canapés on it
  • Fill it up with Dahi Boondi mixture
  • Garnish with beets and carrot shreds and chopped cilantro
  • Sprinkle some more masala Boondi
  • Serve immediately
