Dudhi Chana ni Dal

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups Dudhi or bottle gourd
  • 1/4 cup Chana ni dal split black grams
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • Salt as needed
  • 1/4 tsp asafetida powder hing
  • 2 kokam dry garcinia optional
  • 1 tablespoon crushed jaggery
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1.5 tsp red chili powder
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice if not using kokam
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak chana dal in hot water for 30 minutes
  • Peel and cut dudhi and wash it with cold water
  • Cook Dudhi and Chana dal seperately in an Instantpot on high pressure for 10 minutes or 3 whistles in a pressure cooker
  • Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and hing powder and let it sizzle
  • Add the dudhi pieces and chana dal and mix it well
  • Add water and then add jaggery, red chili powder, salt, turmeric powder and kokam and let it simmer
  • Close the the lid and let it cook for 5 minutes till everything comes together
  • Squeeze fresh lime juice if kokam was skipped or it did not add enough sourness
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve it along with Rotli or Rice
